What an incredible weekend 27-28 June 2026 was as we welcomed First Nations leaders, Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) Directors and key staff to beautiful Butchulla Country (land, sea and sky) for the 2026 People, Place and Partnership (PPP) YarnUp, co-hosted by Queensland South Native Title Services (QSNTS) and BNTAC.
From the moment people arrived, there was a real sense of positivity, purpose and connection in the room. The YarnUp was created as a space for PBC Directors to come together, share their challenges and successes, learn from each other’s experiences, and strengthen the partnerships that help our organisations thrive.
One of the most powerful aspects of the gathering was hearing the stories from Directors and representatives from across the QSNTS South East Queensland region. Many of the stories shared were deeply inspiring, highlighting resilience, innovation and self-determination.
As Chairperson of BNTAC and opening speaker, it was particularly rewarding to see new relationships being formed and existing partnerships being strengthened. Events like the PPP YarnUp provide a unique opportunity for PBC Directors to sit together, yarn openly and establish connections that will continue long after the event has finished.
The theme of “Keeping the Yarning Flowing” was evident in every session and discussion. Whether participants were sharing lessons learned from governance challenges, discussing opportunities for economic development, or exchanging ideas about caring for Country, there was a clear understanding that our collective strength comes from working together and learning from each other’s journeys.
I would also like to acknowledge facilitator Francis Nona, whose leadership helped create an environment where everyone felt comfortable contributing their experiences and perspectives. His commitment to empowering communities and supporting nation-building was reflected throughout the YarnUp.
