Embracing International Kindness Day on 13 November 2023: A Reflection on BNTAC’s Commitment to Compassion

Embracing International Kindness Day on 13 November 2023: A Reflection on BNTAC’s Commitment to Compassion

by | 22 Nov, 2023 | Blog

As we navigate the complexities of our responsibilities at the Butchulla Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (BNTAC), it’s essential to pause and reflect on the values that drive our work. Today, on International Kindness Day, I am proud to spotlight how the BNTAC team, including Deidrie Gordon, Administration Assistant, and Shawn Wondunna-Foley, our Strategic Resource Support Officer, and myself are creating a culture of kindness within the organisation and community.

Kindness extends beyond a simple gesture; it’s a powerful force that can transform workplaces, elevate individual wellbeing, and create a positive ripple effect in our community and beyond out into the wider Australian community.

A Supportive Work Environment

At BNTAC, we believe that kindness is the cornerstone of a supportive work environment. Deidrie Gordon, with her warm and welcoming demeanour, ensures that our administrative processes are not just efficient but also infused with a spirit of consideration. This approach creates an environment where every team member feels valued, supporting collaboration and innovation in the workplace.

Nurturing Professional Relationships

Shawn Wondunna-Foley, our Strategic Resource Support Officer, exemplifies how kindness can strengthen professional relationships. In our dynamic roles, where strategic planning is key, Shawn’s approach combines expertise with empathy. This blend not only enhances our collaborative efforts but also enriches our work with diverse perspectives, contributing to the holistic success of our projects.

Community Impact

As we champion kindness within our team, we understand its profound impact on our broader community. Our commitment to compassion reflects in our interactions with Butchulla community members, stakeholders, and partners. By creating and enabling a culture of kindness, we create a space where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to the shared vision of cultural preservation and environmental custodianship.

Improving Work Outcomes

Kindness is not just a nicety; it’s a catalyst for improved work outcomes. When kindness is embedded in our daily interactions, it enhances communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Deidrie, Shawn, and I are witness to how this positive energy translates into more effective project management, strategic planning, and overall organisational success.

Enhancing Quality of Life

Beyond the confines of the workplace, kindness permeates into the broader community, contributing to an improved quality of life. Whether through community engagement initiatives or collaborative projects, our commitment to kindness aligns with our mission to create a sustainable and culturally rich future for the Butchulla people.

Join Us in the Celebration

On this International Kindness Day, let us come together to celebrate the power of compassion, both within our organisation and throughout the wider community. Small acts of kindness, when woven into the fabric of our daily lives, have the potential to create lasting positive change.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the BNTAC team—Deidrie Gordon, Shawn WondunnaFoley, as well as Kaile Clarke and Frank Green and every member of our community—for embodying the spirit of kindness. Together, we pave the way for a brighter, more compassionate future.

Yours in gratitude
Veronica Bird, General Manager, BNTAC
